Terms of use
California Deathcare Weekly is a trade publication for deathcare professionals in California. By using this website you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
The site is provided as is. We work to keep it accurate and available, but we do not guarantee it will be uninterrupted or error free, and we are not liable for decisions made on the basis of what you read here. Nothing on this site is legal, financial or professional advice. Regulatory information is reported, not certified, and you should verify anything you intend to act on against the issuing agency.
You may not use the site to break the law, to interfere with its operation, or to extract its contents in bulk by automated means. See Copyright and permissions below for what you may do with our articles.
Privacy policy
What we collect
If you subscribe to the newsletter: your email address, and your name and organization if you give them. Our own form sends them to Constant Contact. If Constant Contact is briefly unreachable, your address waits in a queue on our server until it is added.
If you use a form on this site: your name, organization, email address, phone number if you give it, and whatever you write. Advertising inquiries and news tips are stored on our own server.
If you email us: whatever your message contains.
Automatically: our network provider, Cloudflare, records standard request information such as IP address, browser type and pages requested, to serve the site and protect it from abuse.
We do not ask for sensitive personal information and do not want it. Please do not send financial account numbers, government identifiers or health information through this website.
How we use it
To send the newsletter to people who asked for it. To answer your message. To sell and schedule advertising when you have asked about it. To keep the site running and secure. That is all.
Who we share it with
Constant Contact operates the subscriber list and sends the email edition, and is the authoritative record of your subscription and consent. Cloudflare delivers and protects the site.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not rent, trade or share it with advertisers. An advertiser never receives a subscriber list. Advertising here is sold by placement, never by access to your details.
We will disclose information where the law requires it, or to protect the publication's rights and safety. If we are compelled to identify a confidential source, we will resist to the extent the law allows.
How to see, change or delete your information
For the newsletter, use the unsubscribe or preferences link at the foot of any issue. That is the fastest route and Constant Contact handles it directly. For anything else, email [email protected] and say what you want to see, correct or remove. We respond within 30 days.
How long we keep it
Subscriber records stay with Constant Contact while you are subscribed. Unsubscribe records are kept afterwards, deliberately, so that your decision can be honoured. Form submissions are kept while they are useful to the editorial or advertising work they relate to.
Security
The site runs over HTTPS. Form submissions are stored on a server we control and backups are encrypted. No system is perfect and we do not claim otherwise.
Children
This is a professional trade publication. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we update the effective date at the top of this page, and note material changes in the newsletter so subscribers see them without having to check.
Do Not Track
Some browsers send a Do Not Track signal. There is no agreed standard for how a website should answer one.
We do not track you across other websites, so there is nothing for us to stop doing when you send that signal, and we do not behave differently in response to it. We do not allow third parties to collect personally identifiable information about your activity across other sites through this publication.
California privacy rights
California Deathcare Weekly is a small publication. The California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the CPRA, does not currently apply to us. We are below all three thresholds that bring a business within it: our annual revenue is far below the statutory figure, we do not handle the personal information of 100,000 or more California residents or households, and we earn no revenue from selling or sharing personal information. We do not sell or share personal information at all.
We say so plainly rather than reprinting a list of rights we are not obliged to provide. A policy that claims more than it delivers is worth nothing.
We will do these things anyway, on request: tell you what we hold about you, correct it if it is wrong, and delete it unless we are required to keep it. Email [email protected]. We respond within 30 days.
If the publication grows past those thresholds this section will be rewritten and the change announced in the newsletter.
Editorial policy and corrections
We correct errors promptly and visibly. A correction is appended to the article it concerns and noted in the next issue. We do not quietly edit a published story to make a mistake disappear.
To report an error, email [email protected] with the headline and the specific point at issue.
Submitting a press release, a tip or other material does not guarantee publication and creates no obligation on the publication. Material may be edited for length, clarity and style. Do not send us anything you do not have the right to share.
Advertising disclosure
Advertising and sponsorship never affect editorial coverage, and advertisers get no advance sight of stories concerning them. Where a story touches an advertiser or sponsor, that relationship is disclosed within the story itself.
Advertisements and sponsored placements are labelled so a reader can tell at a glance what is editorial and what is paid.
Advertisers do not receive subscriber lists or subscriber details, ever.
Ownership disclosure
The publisher holds ownership interests in affiliated deathcare businesses, including Funeral Convergence, California Funeral Institute and Pacific Funeral Accommodations. Relevant affiliations are disclosed within coverage.
Copyright and permissions
The contents of California Deathcare Weekly, including articles, original market data, charts and the archive, are copyright Deathcare Weekly Media unless stated otherwise.
You may quote a short passage with attribution and a link, share a link to any article, and forward an issue to a colleague.
You may not republish an article in whole or in substantial part, redistribute the email edition to a list, post our original data as your own, or use the contents to train a machine learning model, without written permission.
For reprints, licensing, or permission to circulate an issue to a larger team, email [email protected].
